Multi-platform inventory: define one reliable stock record
Match the same item across channels
Create a clear mapping between each internal SKU, product variant and sales-channel identifier. Record the warehouse as well as the quantity. Resolve ambiguous mappings before allowing stock updates.
Distinguish stock states
Physical stock is not always available to sell. Shopify, for example, distinguishes on-hand, available and committed quantities. Write down how your business handles reserved, damaged and returned items.
Reconcile and handle exceptions
Choose one owner for the stock record and document how channel updates are checked. Test sales, cancellations and returns on a small set. Set review frequency and reserves from observed delays and demand, then investigate discrepancies instead of repeatedly overwriting them.
